JAI · Account deletion
Delete your JAI account.
You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, in four taps. It happens immediately, and it cannot be undone.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Apple owns billing, so an active subscription keeps renewing — and keeps charging you — until you cancel it separately in your Apple ID settings. Cancel it first, then delete the account.
Delete it from inside the app
Everything below is in the JAI iPhone app. You need to be signed in — if you can't sign in, email us instead.
- Open JAI and tap the menu icon in the top-left corner of the screen (the three stacked lines, next to today's date). You can also swipe right from the left edge. The side panel slides open.
- Scroll to the bottom of that panel and tap Account — the last item, marked with a person icon.
- The Account sheet slides up from the bottom of the screen. It reads “Manage your session and account.” and offers two actions: Log out and Delete account.
- Tap Delete account — the red one. A confirmation dialog appears.
- Read the dialog, then tap Delete account again to confirm. Tapping Cancel here stops the whole thing and nothing is touched.
- Your data is erased and you are returned to the sign-in screen. There is no undo, no grace period and no recovery — signing in again creates a brand-new, empty account.
The confirmation dialog reads, in full:
Delete account?
This permanently erases your chats, reflections and dashboard. It can’t be undone.
It does NOT cancel your subscription — to stop billing, cancel it in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions.
Cancel Delete account
If anything goes wrong, the app shows “Could not delete — Something went wrong deleting your account. Please try again.” and your account is left intact. Try again on a good connection; if it keeps failing, email us and we'll do it for you.
What gets deleted
Confirming the dialog wipes your data from all three places JAI stores it — our application database, the knowledge graph derived from it, and your sign-in identity. Immediately, and permanently.
- Your journal. Every message you have written, every reply JAI wrote back, and every conversation they belong to — including your morning briefs.
- Everything derived from it. The emotional, health and productivity readings extracted from your entries; the events, topics and tags built from them; your goals and the links between your days and those goals; the fields you chose to track and every value logged against them; your dashboard summary and your onboarding profile.
- Your knowledge graph. The entire private Neo4j subgraph built from your journal — every node and relationship carrying your user ID — is detached and deleted.
- Notifications. Your morning-brief preferences (time, timezone, on/off) and the push token registered for your device, so no further notification can reach you.
- Your sign-in identity. The Supabase authentication record behind your Apple, Google or email sign-in is removed as the final step, so the account itself no longer exists.
We keep no shadow copy, no soft-delete flag and no “deleted users” archive. Once the request completes, the only remaining copies are the backups described below, which expire on their own.
What is retained, and for how long
Three things survive the deletion, for reasons we can't engineer away. None of them is used to bring a deleted account back, and none is readable inside the app.
| What | Where it lives | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly database backups | Encrypted build artifacts held by GitHub, taken once a week from our application database | Up to 28 days, then deleted automatically |
| Subscription and transaction records | Apple and RevenueCat, our subscription processor | Retained by Apple under its own tax and accounting obligations — not ours to delete |
| Anonymised product analytics | Our analytics provider | Retained indefinitely in a form that cannot be linked back to you — no journal content, only counts of anonymous events |
Backups
28 days We take one encrypted snapshot of the application database a week, and each snapshot is destroyed automatically 28 days after it is taken. So a copy of your data can persist in a backup for at most 28 days after you delete your account — usually less, depending on where in the weekly cycle you delete. Backups exist only for disaster recovery — we don't read them for any other purpose. If we ever had to restore from one, we would re-apply any account deletions made since that snapshot was taken.
Payment records
Purchases are made through Apple, not through us. Apple — and RevenueCat, which reconciles those purchases on our behalf — hold the record of what you bought and when. We cannot delete those records, and Apple is required to keep them for its own tax and accounting obligations. You can review them yourself under Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions and in your Apple purchase history.
Analytics
We count things like “a brief was posted” or “the paywall was viewed” to understand whether the app is working. These events never contain your journal text, and they are keyed to an internal identifier that stops referring to any person the moment your account is deleted. What remains is a number in an aggregate, not a record of you.
Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your JAI account does not cancel an active App Store subscription. Apple manages the billing relationship, and it will keep renewing — and keep charging your Apple ID — even though the app has no account left to unlock. The app tells you this in the confirmation dialog for exactly this reason.
Cancel it in your Apple ID settings, before you delete:
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap your name at the very top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap JAI, then Cancel Subscription.
We cannot cancel or refund an App Store purchase for you — only Apple can. Refund requests go to reportaproblem.apple.com. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Can't sign in? Ask us to delete it
If you've lost access to your account — a lost device, a sign-in that no longer works, an email address you can't reach — write to support@jai-lab.co and we will delete the account for you.
Please include:
- The email address on the account — the one behind your Apple, Google or email sign-in. This is how we identify what to delete.
- The word “delete” in the subject line, so it isn't missed.
Send it from that same email address where you can, so we can be confident the request is really yours. If you can't, we'll ask you a couple of questions to confirm it before we erase anything — an account is not something we delete on an unverified request.
We respond within 5 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming your identity. In practice it is usually the same week. We'll email you once it's done.
