Terms of Service

JAI: AI Chat and Journal · JAI LAB LLP · Last updated 26 July 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and JAI LAB LLP for using JAI. They cover what the app is, what it very deliberately is not, who owns what, and how subscriptions work. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.

JAI is not therapy, not medical advice, and not a crisis service.

It is a journaling companion for reflection and self-understanding. It cannot diagnose anything, it cannot treat anything, and it is not staffed by humans who will notice that you are in trouble. Nothing JAI says is a substitute for care from a qualified professional.

If you are in crisis, or you are thinking about harming yourself, please contact someone who can actually help — right now. In Singapore:

  • Emergency services 995
  • Samaritans of Singapore (SOS), 24-hour hotline 1767
  • SOS CareText (WhatsApp) 9151 1767
  • Institute of Mental Health helpline 6389 2222

If you are outside Singapore, contact your local emergency number or crisis line.

1. This agreement

JAI is made by JAI LAB LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in Singapore (UEN T26LL0791K), with its registered office at 32 Keppel Bay Drive
#04-62 Caribbean at Keppel Bay
098651, Singapore. In these terms "we", "us" and "JAI Lab" mean JAI LAB LLP, and "you" means you, the person using the app.

By creating an account or using JAI, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app. Our Privacy Policy forms part of this agreement and explains how we handle your data.

2. What JAI is

JAI is a private journaling companion. You write to it about your day in ordinary language, and it writes back. Overnight it produces a brief summarising the previous day, and over time it builds a dashboard of patterns — mood, sleep, activity, the things you keep returning to — drawn from what you have written.

We provide the app on a subscription basis, and we may change, add or remove features as the product develops. We will not remove a core capability you are paying for without telling you.

3. Who can use JAI

You must be at least 16 years old to use JAI, and you must be capable of forming a binding contract under the law that applies to you. If you are not, you may not use the app.

You must also not be barred from using the service under the laws of Singapore or of the country you are in.

4. Your account

You sign in with your Google or Apple account. You are responsible for keeping that sign-in secure and for everything that happens under your JAI account. Tell us at support@jai-lab.co if you believe someone else has access to it.

One account is for one person. Please do not share it, and do not create an account on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.

You can delete your account, and the data that goes with it, at any time from inside the app. What that removes is set out in our Privacy Policy and at jai-lab.co/jai/delete-account.

5. JAI is not a substitute for care

This repeats the notice at the top of this page, because it matters more than anything else here.

JAI is not a medical device, not a mental-health service, not therapy, and not a crisis service. It does not provide medical, psychological, diagnostic, legal or financial advice. It is not monitored by clinicians, it does not escalate anything to a human, and nobody is watching your entries for signs that you need help. Its reflections about mood, sleep or health are descriptions of what you told it, not assessments of your condition.

Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something JAI said. If you have a health concern, speak to a doctor or a qualified mental-health professional. If the situation is urgent, use the emergency and crisis contacts at the top of this page.

6. AI-generated content

JAI's replies, morning briefs, dashboards and pattern summaries are generated by artificial-intelligence models. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or confidently mistaken. It can misread what you meant, attribute a feeling you did not describe, or draw a pattern out of too little data.

Treat what JAI produces as a prompt for your own thinking, not as fact and not as advice. Use your own judgement, and check anything that matters. We do not warrant that AI-generated content is accurate, and we are not responsible for decisions you make in reliance on it.

7. Acceptable use

When using JAI, you agree not to:

  • use it for anything unlawful, or to plan or encourage harm to anyone;
  • attempt to access another user's account, data or content, or to circumvent the security controls that keep accounts separate;
  • probe, scan, overload, disrupt or attack the service, or try to defeat rate limits or authentication;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except to the extent the law expressly permits it;
  • scrape or bulk-extract data from the service, or use it via automated means other than the app itself;
  • resell, sublicense or provide the service to third parties as if it were your own; or
  • upload content you do not have the right to share, or that infringes someone else's rights.

Please also do not use JAI to store other people's sensitive personal information. It is a journal about your own life.

8. Subscriptions and billing

JAI offers auto-renewing subscriptions on a monthly and an annual plan, each with a one-week free trial for eligible new subscribers. The annual plan is S$59.98 (US$44.99); current prices for every plan, in your local currency, are shown in the app before you confirm any purchase.

  • Apple processes all payments. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. JAI Lab never sees or handles your card details.
  • Renewal is automatic. Your subscription renews at the end of each period, and your Apple ID is charged for the renewal, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • You manage it in Apple, not in JAI. View, change or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID settings. Turning off auto-renewal there is what stops future charges — deleting the app does not.
  • Free trials. If a free trial is offered and you buy a subscription during it, any unused portion of the trial is forfeited. Apple grants an introductory offer once per subscription group per Apple ID, so a returning subscriber may not be eligible for another trial.
  • Price changes. If we change the price of a plan, Apple will tell you and ask for your consent before the new price is charged, in line with App Store rules.
  • Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are Apple's to give under App Store terms. Contact Apple Support to request one. Where we are able to help, we will — email support@jai-lab.co — but we cannot directly refund an App Store purchase.
  • If you stop paying. Paid features stop when your subscription ends. Your entries are not deleted because a subscription lapsed; they are still there if you resubscribe, and you can delete your account at any time.

Apple is not a party to this agreement and is not responsible for JAI or for support of it, but Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

9. Your content

Your journal is yours. Everything you write in JAI — every message, every entry — belongs entirely to you. Using JAI does not transfer any ownership of it to us.

So that the app can actually work, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, transmit and process your content, and to display it back to you. That licence exists for one purpose only: to operate the service for you. Concretely, it lets us store your entries, send their text to our AI provider to generate your replies and reflections, derive your dashboard and patterns from them, and show all of it to you.

The licence is bounded, and here is the boundary:

  • We do not use your journal content to train, fine-tune or improve AI models, and neither does our AI provider. This is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
  • We do not sell your content and we do not advertise against it.
  • We do not publish it, share it, or show it to any other user.
  • The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the short, automatic backup window described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Our intellectual property

The JAI app and website, the JAI and JAI Lab names and logos, the software, the designs, and the text and graphics we produce are owned by JAI LAB LLP or our licensors, and are protected by intellectual-property law.

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, in line with these terms and with the App Store's usage rules. That is the whole of what we grant. All other rights are reserved.

11. Warranties and disclaimers

We build JAI carefully and we want it to work well for you. But it is provided "as is" and "as available", and to the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude all warranties, conditions and terms that are not expressly set out in this agreement, whether implied by statute, common law or otherwise — including any implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

In particular, we do not warrant that:

  • the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free;
  • the AI-generated content, reflections or patterns will be accurate, complete or suitable for any purpose;
  • defects will be corrected, or that the service will meet your requirements; or
  • using JAI will produce any particular outcome for your wellbeing, health, productivity or anything else.

Nothing in this section limits any right you have under Singapore's Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003 or any other consumer-protection law that cannot be excluded.

12. Limitation of liability

Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. This section is subject to that in every case, and to the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 of Singapore, under which any limitation here applies only so far as it is reasonable.

Subject to that paragraph, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive losses, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, business opportunity, or anticipated savings, however caused.
  • We are not liable for loss of or damage to data, except to the extent it results from our failure to take the security measures described in our Privacy Policy. Please keep your own copy of anything you could not bear to lose.
  • We are not liable for decisions you make, or do not make, in reliance on AI-generated content, reflections, briefs or patterns produced by the app.
  • We are not liable for failures caused by things outside our reasonable control, including your device or network, the App Store, or the third-party providers named in our Privacy Policy.
  • Our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with this agreement or your use of JAI, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), statute or otherwise, is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) SGD 100.

These limits reflect the fact that JAI is a low-cost consumer app, that you are not relying on it for professional advice, and that the price we charge is set on that basis.

13. Suspension and termination

You can stop using JAI whenever you like, and you can delete your account from inside the app. Cancelling a subscription is done through your Apple ID settings, as described in section 8.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms — in particular the acceptable-use rules — or if we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund any subscription period you have paid for and not used, to the extent we can arrange that through Apple.

We may also discontinue JAI as a whole. If that happens, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to retrieve your entries before the service ends.

Sections 9 (as to ownership), 10, 11, 12, 15 and 16 survive termination.

14. Changes

We may update these terms — for example when we add a feature, change how subscriptions work, or need to reflect a change in the law. We will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

If a change is material, we will give you notice in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use JAI after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and delete your account.

15. Governing law

This agreement, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter (including non-contractual disputes or claims), is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore.

You and we agree that the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim. Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection law of the country in which you live.

Before going to court, please write to us at support@jai-lab.co. Most things are quicker to fix that way.

16. General

  • Whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about JAI, and replace anything said before.
  • Severability. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force and the unenforceable part is applied to the maximum extent permitted.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a right immediately, we have not given it up.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a successor of our business, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Third parties. Apart from Apple as described in section 8, nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 2001 of Singapore.
